The second hand unwinds
One thing I have never been, is one of these people who have to have numerous accessories to cover every occasion. Therefore, for me, one handbag pretty much does all, until its worn out, and then I get one replacement, and nothing more. Another thing I feel the same way about, is watches.
Therefore, despite having hit 60, and always wearing a watch when out, I doubt the number I’ve owned in my life would reach double figures, or if it has, literally only just. Yes, thinking about it, I’ve had my last watch for over 10 years (probably nearer 12), and not bothered with another watch in the interim. But yes, as they say, everything comes to an end, and given I’ve only just put a new battery in it, and its still losing time, I think I’ve worn it out! Given it cost about £6 back then, I think its been a value buy, lol!
You would think, with inflation, that its replacement would be more expensive, right? But of course, anything that has improved with technology, even things that were cheap in the first place, not true! If I could have waited about 3 weeks for a new one to arrive from China, I could have got a very nice one for about £3. When I need one A.S.A.P, and have to buy one from the UK, its still only £5! Its got a large face (ideal for short sighted old biddies), and its silver (ideal for robot wannabees), and will arrive early next week, so I’ve bought it. Just think, if it lasts as long as this one, and given my fragile body, it could outlive me! Hopefully not, but unless the pain really can be eased, I might be grateful if it does.
The other thing that I’ve done today, that tells me that I’m getting old, and practical, is booking a hotel stay. On 14th December, we are having the staff Christmas do, at a nice place near to work. To sum up, there are 11 going, all ladies! Now, because this only gets started at 7.45 – 8.00 pm, or so, after work on that day, its going to be a late night, by the time it finishes. Yes, I’ve already got the day after off, though only to allow the back to recover, not a hangover recovery in my case.
But yes, this means, its not going to finish early, lets face it? So, given that at best, I’d need a late night taxi home from Huddersfield, and possibly a late night taxi home from Bradford, I’ve got boring, and sensible. Yes, I’ve booked a hotel nearby for the night, and will come home the next morning. Its literally 5 minutes from work, 5 minutes (in a different direction) from where we are eating, so all makes sense. And besides, it gives me somewhere decent to change in the evening too! Well, as decent as a Travelodge can be at least, lol! In truth, with the discount I’ve got from them, its no more expensive than a taxi from Bradford to Huddersfield, even at the budget end of things! I know, where’s the excitement in that, but fine, I’m too old for excitement now, lol!
And besides, if I pull (stop laughing now!), I’ve got a double room in town! No, not going to happen, but thought has given me a fit of the giggles at least!
Right, video time. It is 3 years since I used the Cyndi Lauper version of this, so it would have been fine to use again. But then I found this, from a talented artist that not enough people know, who died way too young.
Living In A Material World?
Something happened yesterday that made me wonder just how crazy this world is at times?
No, nothing serious, just that the pin in my watchstrap split, leaving the watch dangling from my arm. Yes, I caught it, and besides which, its only a cheap one, think it was £6 when I got it, and thats the whole point. To get a new strap for this watch, will cost me about the same as a new watch of the same kind, crazy or what? The snag with that, is the few days I will be without a watch, waiting for it to arrive from Amazon, or the like.
No, I dont want the strap as a giveaway, or for watches to be more expensive at the budget end of the market, just think its a crazy thing if you are trying to be environmentally friendly, thats all. Ironically, when I had this strap fitted (I’ve had the watch a while, and the original strap did the same thing), I got a 2 year guarantee on the strap from the provider, and I’m still within that period. Snag, where I got it from has stopped doing business in the current recession lol! So, all I’ve got is a worthless bit of paper…!
I probably will get a strap, if not tomorrow (when time is a premium), more likely Thursday, when hours suit work wise, though I will hate being without one tomorrow if I do that. I did have a second watch, but it vanished when my room was redecorated while on holiday, and has never been seen since. Probably just buried somewhere, but ah well…
Anyone know of any 20’s style, budget ladies watches btw? 😉 Should really have a second watch regardless, and that would be so much fun to have. Modern workings, old fashioned looks.
The video, a woman I enjoyed the music of, way back then, when Madonna’s style was more fun. I’m not really a Material Girl in that sense, more the one who just wants to have fun, but anyway…I do love that dress though!
