No, not admirers of my non existent good looks, before you ask! 😛 I’d be lucky if that was as high as 1.2, lets face it. No, the answer to that comment is test playing cricket nations, after 2 more were added very recently, Afghanistan, and yes, you’ve guessed it, Ireland! So, even without going to a cricket match in the interim, I’ve now seen 3 test playing teams live, at the ground, all in Belfast. The others? Bangladesh, when they played Ireland in a 1 day series in Belfast, and it has to be said, their fans were amazing. Oh, and Afghanistan, obviously. I have actually seen a very strong Australia B team too, and actually met Steve Smith, now Aussie captain!
Its fair to say that 10 years, and 4 months ago, you’d told me that I’d be waiting for Ireland to announce their first official test match, I would have laughed at you! Yes, I knew that in March 2007, they were going to play in the Cricket World Cup, and that I planned to watch them play, but I wasnt really expecting anything amazing. The rest of course, is history. A tie with Zimbabwe, then that amazing win over Pakistan, and a legend was born. And of course, 4 years later, that incredible win over England in India just added to everything.
Of course, in the meanwhile, they were dominating the Associates (less cricket playing nations) in a very big way. And then one country climbed rapidly up the rankings, to a point where they challenged Ireland in the shorter versions of the game, Afghanistan. Lets be honest, if the history of Ireland in that build up to glory period was troubled, it had, and still has nothing on Afghanistan’s! Afghanistan are (I believe?) still to play an international game in their own country, though hopefully, in time, it will happen. But fine, it might be some time lol!
And now, after last week’s announcement, both countries can, in theory at least, arrange test matches against those famous cricketing nations of the world! Will it happen, who knows? England have said they will play Ireland, and I suspect one of Afghanistan’s neighbours in the area will do the same for them, I hope so at least.
But no, not in my wildest dreams did I ever foresee this happening, 10 years ago. Hopefully I can get to that first test match in Ireland next year, work, and holiday allowance permitting. Just to say that I was there!
Oh, be grateful you got this, as my only other inspiration for tonight was political comment on another crazy Trump ruling, so…
Right, video time. This song is actually from 2005, it just doesnt look, or sound like it. It definitely has the feel of 70’s glam rock, and the lead singer, and her dress have an almost Harlowesque feel. So, for those who dont already know them (and should), this is Goldfrapp!
I must admit that before last year, at 58, I was sort of assuming that my studying days were over. Not that I minded, in truth, as though my brain is still reasonably functional (or at least I like to think it is), the desire to study, to improve myself was pretty much gone. Even allowing for the fact that retirement is now 8 years away for me (when I started working, it would be 9 more months!), I’m definitely looking for the quiet life en route to retirement, even if 1 or 2 at work have hinted that I should consider promotion in the future, but anyway…I might, OK? And if anyone wants to convince me, by interesting methods, then fine, I’d definitely go along with that! 😀
Yes, my last time at school, college, or the like, for studying purposes, was 1976! Yes, I really am that old! I did an accounts course, at a college, from my first job, which I started in 1974, and that was it. Until now…
The Civil Service department I work for, are keen on their staff taking apprenticeship courses, relating to our work. Before you say anything, I fully approve of that idea, but…for those freshly out of, or still in their youth, its a great idea. They have a long working life ahead of them, and anything they can do to improve themselves for their future work career, brilliant! But when you’re 59, looking gently in the distance to a quiet route to retirement, doing an apprenticeship, well…?
Lets be honest, when it comes to things Mathematical, I’m an old fogey! I grew up on yards, feet, and inches, not meters, centimeters, and the like! So yes, when it comes to comparing diagrams that have 1 measurement in centimeters, another in millimeters, plus meters as well…yes, honey, I’m lost, to quote a Dooleys song. No, thats not the video, btw. 😛
And yes, I can get by in basic English, the other part of my course at present, but after 43 years, expecting me to know the difference between using colons, and semi colons, and other stuff like that, no chance! As to story publishing, its why I have a wonderful friend edit my stories for publication, because I’ve forgotten about most of those rules over the years. Also, as most buyers of eBooks are in North America, he adapts my spelling to suit that market, for when I forget!
So yes, its safe to say that after 43 years, I no longer want to be a studious ‘teachers pet’, but guess I will have to do my best, all the same? But enjoy it, no chance! Yes, I working, in between calls yesterday on my studying, and I was more mentally exhausted at the end of it, than a string of non stop calls! Which is what I will probably get tomorrow, as we will be very short handed at work, due to Eid being celebrated.
Talking of which, may I wish Eid Mubarak to any of my readers who will be celebrating tomorrow, or even some today, depending on location.
Video time. I might not want to be Teachers Pet, but Doris Day did, back in 1958. Its funny seeing the screen shots, as of course most Gable films I’ve seen were made about 20 years earlier, or more! Interesting fact, Gable worked on Jean Harlow’s last film, and also worked on Monroe’s last movie, nearly 25 years later. Another connection between the 2 platinum blondes!
Yes, let me say I was saddened greatly by the news that came out of Finsbury Park in the last couple of days, in a similar way to how I felt after the London Bridge incident, before anyone points out that I didnt comment on that. Sadly, when I only have time to do 2 blogs a week, and other things do happen in my life, some things get thought about, but not mentioned here, and that was one of them. Add in the Tower block fire last week, and London isnt having a good time of late, lets face it.
Equally, can I say that I wasnt entirely surprised when that horrific incident in Finsbury Park happened, because I wasnt. Such is political, and religious extremism at the far end of the spectrum of late, that no, I wasnt surprised when a white supremacist type decided to take a stand for himself over the matter. Thankfully, both sets of incident are few, and far between (very much so, in fact), but the press, and TV tend to over focus when they do. When parades of thousands of Muslims, protesting against terrorism happen, they have a tendency to ignore, as it just doesnt suit the underlying tendencies of too many in power, trying to scare people nowadays, lets face it.
I only hope that this can be it, that people can see sense, and we have no more retaliation, from either side. I know, as John Lennon said, ‘You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one’, at least I hope I’m not. Unfortunately, the people I’m appealing to with this piece are probably the ones least likely to read this, but I can hope that in some way, the message can get out. Yes, I know, I’m a very liberal type, but I think that most people, with a cool head would be able to see that just continuing the violence isnt a great idea, from either side.
So all I am saying, to quote another Lennon song, is to ‘Give peace a chance’, please. And yes, let me add that if there was a way I could wear a burqa/burka (I’ve seen it spelt both ways) in support of my Muslim friends, without it being religiously offensive, I’d happily do so. I dont deny it, I’ve seen women wearing it in Bradford a number of times, and wondered what it was like. But no, I dont want to offend anyone, all the same. But if the chance arose…?
Right, the video. No John Lennon, no Dusty Springfield, which a few might have thought of, from the blog title. Instead, a live Police classic from 2008!
Normally the walk between work, and Bradford Interchange, to get the bus home, is a pretty dull affair, with the most ‘exciting’ thing being crossing a few roads, where some vehicles seem to see the traffic lights, or indicating their intention to turn, as a suggestion, rather than compulsory on a Saturday afternoon. But fine, no one has got me, yet!
Now, I’m not claiming to be an angel, I’ve worn some weird stuff when acting, I’ve worn some even weirder stuff when not acting, but thats beside the point! 😛 There’s also some weird stuff I’d love to wear, but havent had the chance to do so as yet. Yes, one might be that robot suit from Metropolis, but never going to happen, I’m sure!
But I must admit, one thing caught my eye, and made me do a double check, as I was walking up the last stretch of hill yesterday, up to the interchange. There was a man, and presumably his daughter, about 8-10 at a guess (me, and children’s ages lol…) walking down the hill towards me. Nothing strange in that, you say, and yes, normally, I would agree. Apart from the fact that the young girl had a metal handcuff affixed around one of her wrists, and was casually slipping her other wrist into the other handcuff! Wow, they start young nowadays lol! No, unfortunately, as they were going in the other direction, and I didnt want to attract attention by looking too closely, I have no idea what happened next!
In truth, I’m sure she was doing it very innocently, and had no idea that one passer by would notice, and react inwardly, at least to it. All I know is, she looked so casual doing it, I do wonder if she was only doing what ‘mummy’ does from time to time lol? Oh fine, I might have worn a pair or two in my time, but never relating to a legal matter lol, my record is spotless, in real life at least. In a play, well…? 😉
But yes, just proves that no walk through any town, or city is guaranteed to be dull, or normal, does it? But no, given that currently, locally, the temperatures are in the 80’s, the leather catsuit, even if I had one, is definitely a no go. No, never worn one, but if someone is offering, when things cool down…? Yes, handcuffs are purely optional unless its a Catwoman roleplay, or acting role! 😛
I might have gone with a more straightforward blog title, but for one thing, the song for the video. This is what happens when a classic song gets tackled by Ray Stevens. Seriously, its rather good!
Even more amusing is the fact that the drummer looks remarkably like someone at work. I know it isnt, but…?
One of those series that I could enjoy the camp, kitsch nature of more, as I grew older, was Batman. Yes, I enjoyed it as an 8, to 10 year old child, but fine, it meant so much more, as I grew older, and got to understand the nuances of it, but anyway…Yes, sadly, my Batman is dead, Adam West, at the grand old age of 88. I know, there have been more modern version of the character, but if you asked me to choose between the more modern, dark brooding versions, or that gloriously crazy version from the 1960’s, no contest! I know, its probably the one you grow up with, that you prefer, so…?
Its fair to say that the outfits worn back then, were less fetish than recently, though to say they were designed for sex appeal still came into the matter, as per the video clip shortly. 50 years on, its impossible to exactly remember which role I fancied ‘playing’ most, though I’m not saying that Batgirl, or Catwoman didnt come into the equation, I cant be positive on that now.
But yes, now, and possibly influenced by that PVC outfit that Michelle Pfieffer wore, its fair to say that playing at being Catwoman, would be a lot of fun! Though yes, the original, Julie Newmar probably appeals to me the most. Maybe because she mixed feline charm, in with all that wickedness? Oh, and fine, that style of Catsuit was none too shabby either!
Anyway, as a tribute to Batman, here’s a scene where Catwoman is supposedly seducing Batman, though clearly her aim is something entirely different, as we find out at the end.
So yes, RIP, Adam West, and thanks for those memories. And yes, I do feel old when things like this happen, and I realize that before too long, Old Mother Time is going to catch up with me too. But until then…
OK, video time. So, is this good girl going to go bad, and be Catwoman, rather than Batgirl? Yes, absolutely! 😉
Some watchful people may have noticed I didnt actually comment on the election in the build up to it, and there was a good reason for that. Nowadays, as a civil servant, I have to be strictly neutral on all matters during that period, but thankfully, now its over…
In truth, I’m still not going to comment on my views of the political parties, simply because I feel its only a matter of time before we ‘party’ like 1974, and have a second attempt. Yes, I’m old enough to remember the last time it happened, even if I wasnt old enough to vote at that point. It was May 1979, and the first Thatcher win, before I could cast my vote in one.
I’m sure when Theresa May decided to call this snap election, she thought that winning it was going to be a case of just turning up, taking the plaudits, and that would be it. I bet she thinks differently now lol! Ironically, that may have been her main problem, she assumed she was just going to win it regardless, and really didnt make much effort to inspire the voters, because she didnt think she needed to! Meanwhile, Corbyn decided to make a bit more effort, and some appreciated that, and yes, fine, the rest is history by now!
There is actually a case for saying that despite an awful campaign, she still won the vote, got the most seats, but fine, its not what she, or the Conservatives were expecting, shall we say? In truth, my main issue with events since then, is her desperate attempt to cling to power, by coming to an agreement with the DUP of Northern Ireland, who are, shall we diplomatically put it, not fans of LGBT folk, like me! I doubt they will have enough power to influence the UK situation as a whole, but yes, its not going to help LGBT people in Northern Ireland in the slightest, not good.
So its all a mess, and I’m sure its only a matter of time before it all falls apart, and Election 2 is called, but…Polls are now showing Labour ahead! I suspect part of this is the LGBT issue, and the DUP, and another part is the arrogant way that May has continued to behave since Thursday night. Not that I’m a fan of either major party, but…Also, there is the matter of the Liberal Democrats leader showing definite homophobic tendencies (on a claimed religious basis), and where do we go?
But yes, I suspect now, if you offered Theresa May the choice of an election, or not, knowing what we know now, she might decide otherwise!
Fine, before we party like 1974…the video. What the Conservatives might be thinking, right now…
No, not a real blog, just something I wanted to post for obvious reasons, and cant do justice on the day, as I will be working.
Today marks the 80th anniversary of the date in 1937 when Jean Harlow last lived on this planet, and obviously I want to remember it.
Despite all the stories, and there are plenty, she died of kidney failure, and back then in 1937, there wasnt a thing that could be done. 10 years later, early dialysis, and transplants might have saved her, but that at that point, was not possible.
Oh, the other story that needs quashing, her mother did arrange medical staff to look after her, there was just nothing they could do.
Rest in peace, Baby, as you’ve done for 80 years now
OK, amusing story time.
When I got back to work last week, as well as being told of the forthcoming change of team at work, which though I dont mind it in the slightest, I’d still quite enjoy it if someone convinced me about it, using this machine…
Yes, I know, I wish!
The second thing that was waiting for me, in the form of a piece of paper on my desk, is something from the daily free newspaper over here, known as the Metro, an article called Rush Hour Crush. Yes, it is as awful as it sounds, judging by the posts in the one left on my desk, but anyway…A couple of people especially, know of a certain bus journey crush I have, and it was placed there because of her, and me. In truth, I have no idea why I crush on her, because strictly, she isnt my type. She’s very slim, pretty much flat chested, and non exceptional looks. But, but, she just has something I adore, though thats a mystery ingredient, for sure. But anyway…
Last night, for the first time in weeks, I saw her. Mainly because I didnt see her just before I went on holiday, or the first week I was back, plus that 2 week gap, so…it was a treat when I saw her at the bus stop, and then realized there were no double seats left downstairs, so yes, she went upstairs, I was downstairs, and I’m not that predatory! Fine, I’m not in the slightest predatory, so I had to settle for 2 brief sightings.
Anyway, in line with those Crush postings, I jokingly posted this on my Facebook page, as they always love to know when I see her
Cute, slim blonde on 7.20 363 to Bailiff Bridge tonight. Coffee, or more?
Tall, butch looking blonde
I know, silly stuff, but anyway…Yes, I’m crazy, someone said they would text it in (cant do it myself, no mobile phone), if I wanted them to, and I said yes. Fine, it helps that I know she never reads anything but her kindle on the bus, so I think I’m safe from her reading it. I suppose someone at her work place might, and work out who its aimed at, but I’m sure the chances of that are equally slim.
On top of all that, I know she has a ring, but I have no idea if its a wedding ring. Probably is, but…? Oh, and secondly, I’m sure the only way someone like her would consider a sapphic relationship would be by influencing her mind, something like this!
But yes, fine, if it appears in the Metro (tomorrow would be the earliest possibility for that), and she looks at me, in a certain way, the next time I see her, well…I’ll probably still have to do without even a friend for coffee! But, just maybe…?
The video, some old Doris Day, from Calamity Jane, what I will probably have to do, concerning my certain cute lady…
One thing about working in an office, where there are 5 teams in a department, is the knowledge that you might not always be in the same team, forever. its certainly happened in both my previous jobs up here, and now, seemingly its going to happen again. Same role, same hours, just a different team leader.
In a way, it makes perfect sense, I’m now going to be in the team of the team leader who works every Saturday, like me, so there wont be weeks when I’m sat all on my own any more, though to be fair, said team leader was sat right behind me, and besides, it never really bothered me anyway. I know, I dont let much bother me, but anyway…Its equally fair to say that my current team leader is sorry to lose me, though I suspect thats as much down to my ‘entertaining’ calls, as anything else. Who, me? Flirt with customers? No, not really, though fine, I do maybe use my feminine wiles to get round them at times lol!
As to the swap, no, I get on fine with both of them, so no issue to me, either way. But fine, I could live without all the fuss of changing desks, and everything, as you then have to do all the ‘health and safety’ stuff again when you change desks, but never mind… Other than that, I’ll just carry on, as before, and…
Oh fine, I might enjoy it more if it was a literal transfer of affection, but more of that when I get to the video, but fine, I’m probably the only one changing teams that would enjoy that sort of thing. Still, if they want to arrange for it to be done like that, just for me… 😉 In fact, in some ways, the video is a little tame for what I’d fancy, but besides all that…
I just wonder how many more transfers of affection I might have before probable retirement, in just about 7 years time, lol? Who knows, I might even be one of the team leaders by then? Not that I’m very ambitious, but all the same…? Still, if someone wants to ‘make me’ more ambitious, I might not say no!
Right, video time. Oh fine, you can tell this is from the 80’s, from the outfits the group are wearing, not even allowing for those rather cute space suits! Who, me, fancy wearing any of those, you bet! I have no idea why this wasnt a bigger hit over here in the UK, but besides all that…Yes, I’d love to know what was actually being done to her mind! 😀
