Yes, the clue to the video is in the title, but given the song is 43 years old, most wont work it out without looking at the link!
Tonight, for those of us with Irish ancestry in our blood, is best known as Samhain, an ancient Gaelic/Pagan festival, symbolising the changing of the seasons, and the passing of time. Of course, in the US, where it has been huge for years, it has turned into Halloween. Until the last few years, it wasnt such a big event over here, but in the way of things, it seems to be taking off over here now. I think part of the reason it wasnt a major event over here, is because Firework night is only 6 days away, which has been celebrated, well, seemingly forever!
Which is probably why I have no great memories of Halloween to tell you, it just never happened in this country when I was young! It might have been fun as a child, dressing up, and going around houses, trick or treating, though I doubt I would have gone as a witch at that time, but who knows, it might have been my first moment of female realisation, if I had!
Mind, today, I went out, to sort out my currency for the next trip to the US (just over 3 weeks time) in just a top, and trousers! Temperature was hovering somewhere around 70, at the end of October! Still, I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
So, for me, I will wish all my readers a blessed Samhain, and hope the winter season passes peacefully for you. Mind, if Jean Harlow’s ghost wants to pay me a visit, through that weakened barrier between the 2 worlds, I wont say no. But come early, please, I’m on an 8.00 start at work tomorrow morning lol!
The video, as I say, you need a good memory (or be as ancient as me) to remember this one. Seemingly live, a rare event for the 1970’s, in a studio!
Oh, and please, anyone, dont let him see this posting…swoon!
To be honest, generally when I get home from a 10 pm finish to a shift at work, all I want to do is catch up on the internet, and get to bed. No pleasure, just purpose.
But last night, just for once, finishing at 10, on a Monday, in the middle of the NFL season has a delight for me. You see, over here, on British Eurosport, we get the coverage of the Monday night game, live, just as ESPN broadcast it in the US. And this week, for one week only, because we’ve put the clocks back, and they haven’t, the game started at 12.30 am our time, the coverage starting 15 minutes earlier.
So fine, by 12.15, the TV is on, and waiting, even though I’m not that far from done, but no way am I going to bed until…I’ve seen Jon Gruden, and heard that wonderful voice too. I’m having a good year on that front of course, having already had the pleasure of ‘his company’ in Kansas City last month, and looking forward to a second ‘date’ next month in Albany, but this was a pleasant bonus.
No, I’m not going to find you a picture of this gorgeous hunk (in my middle aged opinion at least), just type his name in Google images, and…I know some of my contacts are ‘amused’ by my adoration of this guy, but anyway…
Funnily enough, I’ve known Jon Gruden a long time, in a viewing sense at least. No, I’ve never met him, nor am I likely to. Besides which, it would probably be a pointless exercise, as I would be in a puddle of swoon on the floor, in all likelihood, if I did!
Go back to the turn of the century, and he first came to my eye, as head coach of first, the Oakland Raiders, and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading them to a Superbowl win, ironically over his former team. I actually saw much of that game, in the US, in Chicago’s main train station, as I was heading across country at the time. And yes, even though I didnt support his team, he caught my eye! Probably my first man crush as a woman to be honest, though back then it was far from an official status.
Anyway, like all coaches, in the end, in 2009, he got fired, and went off to work for ESPN. Now given Monday night football takes place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, I dont see a lot of him nowadays. But whenever I go to the US, in the NFL season, on a Monday night…without a doubt! My once a year treat, as I would jokingly call it.
This year now, it will be a hat trick! 🙂
So fine, as Doris Day sang, my secret love is no secret, any more…
No, the video isn’t DD though, but she is blonde, and her first name begins with a D. I might not have been a Sunday Girl dreaming, strictly it was Tuesday over here, to be fair, but…2 songs for the price of one!
Some glimpses of the photo shoot pictures, yes?
Fine, I thought so, so I’ll leave the more meaningful stuff until Tuesday and Wednesday.
Yes, they arrived this morning in my message box, a dozen shots in all, so I’ll let you see 3 of them
Hope you like them, I certainly do. If anyone should want to see more, then ask, with an email address, and I’ll send the lot! Equally, if you are in the Leeds area, and want to know who to contact to get your own set of photos done, the answer is Cocoture.
The video, well of course, its dedicated to me lol!
With many thanks to my friend, Kris, for these two marvellous, err, photographs of Jean, clearly a big Royals fan
The video, well, what can I say. Both teams seem to adore this song, so wonderfully apt, for what should be a great series.
Yes, I want the Royals to win, but the Giants are probably my favourite NL side, so…I’d live lol!
Yes, tomorrow night, in Kansas City, the culmination of the baseball season begins. Given that the game will actually start at 1.00 am in the UK, on Wednesday morning, I wont be watching. But in spirit, albeit a sleeping spirit, I will be there.
Its a rare treat, in that I have actually been to both stadiums where the games will take place, and actually enjoyed visiting both of them. The last time there was a World Series when that happened, 1993 when Toronto took on Philadelphia. The Toronto stadium at that time, was the once I visited, but the Philadelphia one wasnt, having being demolished in 2004, and replaced by a very modern stadium that well, I didnt fall in love with!
The last Series between 2 teams I have seen play is far more recent, just 2 years ago, when San Francisco played Detroit. I saw Detroit play, in the now demolished Metrodome in Minneapolis.
But these two…
So lets start with where people leave their heart, San Francisco. AT&T Park is probably one of my all time favourites, probably helped by the fact that the first time I went there (have been twice), I went to an evening game, and not only did I get to watch the baseball, in a wonderful setting, I got to see the sunset over San Francisco Bay, and that was worth the money in itself.
But all in all, its a wonderful setting to see baseball played, though sadly, no one hit a home run into the water while I was there. Have seen it on TV a couple of times, but…
So yes, ironically, under any other circumstances, I would happily support them against most teams, but not this time around.
Because they are playing Kansas City!
So far, I’ve only had the one visit to Kaufman Stadium, about a month ago, when they lost to Boston. As was mentioned in the blog at the time, the service that Kate and I got from the staff, was truly amazing. And seeing those famous fountains, at the other end of the stadium…really good!
I must admit, there are 2 ladies who are the reason I follow Kansas City, Brooks and Harlow. One came from the city, one came from the state of Kansas, so all in all…a big soft spot for me. Neither of course saw the Royals play, they only started playing in 1969. Lets face it, pre war, travel made it impossible for teams to play that far west. And when teams started moving west, California became the big target, so…
And before you ask, I have absolutely no evidence that either lady ever saw a baseball match anywhere!
Given that San Francisco have won it all twice in the last 4 years, Kansas hadnt even made the play offs since 1985, when they actually won the World Series themselves, I might have supported KC anyway. But now, probably the first time I’ve really rooted against SF in all honesty.
Hopefully KC will win, as that would be perfect for me. But at the same time, if a National League team has to win it, well, San Francisco might be my call. But even so, I have to say it, go Royals!
The video, well its about KC, and produced in Cherryvale, surely the perfect combination? I have to thank my friend, Tina for posting it on Facebook in the first place.
Oh, and if any manip/photoshop experts out there want to send me a picture of Jean Harlow, in either a Royals top, or cap, I would so love it, and would post it up. I know, wherever she is watching it from, she’ll be rooting for her home town team
I know, for most people, summer finished a little while ago, though at the moment its so mild here, its hard to believe its the middle of October. But for all that, next Sunday morning (in the UK at least, before my American readers say something) the clocks go back an hour, marking the end of British Summer time for the year. The US, I believe its one week later? At least I get a guaranteed extra hour of sleep lol!
It doesnt seem that long ago, when I got up at 5.45, it was light. Hey, for a while, it was light when I had to get up at 4.45, for an 8.00 start, but anyway, at present, its now dark for both. Whether it will be at 5.45 next week, no idea, but even if it is, it wont last long.
Yes, going to work, and coming home again, both in the dark, on a standard shift, will seem weird for a while!
And yes, on weekends like this one, I suspect the summer of my life may be beginning to drain away too. Maybe not, but unfortunately, when I got up yesterday, my back felt like it had been hit by a slab of concrete, or is that had been turned into a slab of concrete? Anyway, being daft, and all that, I still went to work. Not a good move in all honesty, as every time I bent down, or tried to move, I knew it!
Thankfully, a Tramadol last night, and a decent nights sleep, and it was slightly less painful today. Hopefully tomorrow, it will be even better. But lets face it, I’m in my mid fifties, my body is unlikely to get very much more supple now! Well, not unless rejuvenation booths move on from fiction, to fact!
If the body behaves, and the weather holds, I intend to go out tomorrow, the last trip out of summer, for sure. If nothing else, I’ll probably get the US Dollars for 5 weeks time, the credit card has already been topped up!
Oh, and a friend tells me, they’ve already had snow in Vermont! Winter is on its way, eek!
The video, well its about the end of summer. You may not know the name, but if you ever watch Eastenders (I wouldnt if you paid me!), he wrote the theme music.
I think that title will just about cover every thing, maybe?
OK, so cutting out the boring bits, like work, and things, the first big event was the interview. I must admit, yesterday morning, around 7.00, after very limited sleep, my brain, and logic don’t go well together. Because if they had, I would have caught on that a black dress, covered by a coat, and a top and black skirt, covered by a coat, look remarkably alike. But anyway…I know for next time! More on that later.
Oh, the dress, at work, not a blink. Well, no one commented at least, and I would have thought one or two would have done, if they’d wanted to! No, I stuck with the wedge heels, not the high heels during the morning, and I’m sure my feet were delighted with that call. The interview was meant to be at 1.15, so I’d planned to swap over about 1.00, so my feet were used to them, when I needed to walk in them. So I got told I could go in about 12.45 lol, so hastily put them on.
As much as I can tell, the interview went well, answered questions confidently, looked at the person asking the question, and all that. We will see, should hear sometime next week, but hey, first interview in a dress, and it felt great! Yes, you guessed it, I didnt change again after the interview…until I got home!
And the journey home was a bit longer than usual, though for once, the train company werent to blame! No, I stopped off to see the results from the photo shoot, and for now at least, you’ll have to believe me when I say they were amazing. You will get to see some, in good time, when I get the email versions of a few of them. Believe me, I want you to see them, they are that good!
Then lastly, today, I went off for what I’m jokingly calling my MOT. And yes, I passed. Fine, the right shoulder, the back, and the knees arent perfect, but they arent deteriorating either, seemingly. So the old girl will be fine for a while more.
The video, relates to the photo shoot, shall we say?
Oh, and for those amused by such things, the baseball. Kansas City Royals still havent lost in the play offs, though this will probably be the ‘knife in the back’ for that, this evening. And lets just say that when Jean Harlow, a native of Kansas City was asked for her feelings on the matter, this summed it up.
(For those of you shrewd enough, and knowledgeable enough to read both blogs, they are the same tonight, just saying…)
Yes, absolutely no prizes for working out what the video delight is tonight, but you get a little (superior in my opinion) bonus on top of the English version of the song.
No, I havent officially taken up employment as a model, but today left me feeling like one, or perhaps more aptly, a famous film star, no prizes for working out who! 😉
I did a photo shoot before with Cocoture, when they were working out at Rawdon, and it was an amazing experience, for someone who had never done anything like that before. Yes, you’re right, thats where the whole Jean Harlow thing took flight, when people got to see the pictures from the shoot, and commented on the resemblance.
I’ve known for a little while, that they were planning to start up a studio in Leeds, so I held off on doing the ‘Seriously Jean Harlow’ photo shoot until then, simply because its so much easier for me to get there, and back. Anyway, today was the big day!
As a good model probably should, the day started with coffee. Yes, I mean the one at home this morning, btw. Unlike Jean, I suspect, I had to get my own! Anyway, about 10.15 or so, I set out for Leeds, complete with dress collection, and a pair of high heel shoes.
Fun started when I got close to the studio, I knew the address, but couldnt see any obvious signs. Anyway, I asked at the hair salon, and helpfully got guided upstairs by a wonderfully helpful lady. I dont know her name, but Karen probably will, when she reads this.
First things first, get the model looking her best, and Bethany did just that. Stylish make up, abundant curls all enhancing the look. To be honest, I know how Jean must have felt when having her’s done at the studio! Then Dave, and Karen had their time, first outfit, first change, and the ‘film star’ in me, took control. Dave has a good style, and combined with my confidence, and nous, as to what poses he might be looking for, the filming flowed. We passed through several dress changes, a number of accessories, and I had a marvellous time.
I’m not sure if I reached a point where ‘Jean’ took control, but I felt so much like a model/movie star being posed, that she might have done. Of course, we could be one and the same, but…?
Oh, and yes, guys, a short dress was worn, you should get to see my legs!
Then a fun thing happened, we filmed in another building. The ‘Leeds Club’ next door is a wonderful Victorian building, and we went off (with permission) to get a few shots there, in the gentlemans toilets. Not your basic humdrum place, this looked like somewhere straight out of the Victorian era, an incredible place for a vintage shoot. Yes, hilarity ensued, when a poor man walked in the entry door, to find 2 women inside, as part of a photo shoot! All went fine, we took one more shot, thanked him for his patience, and then back to the studio.
A few more shots, an appointment made for next Tuesday afternoon (after work) to view the photos, really looking forward to seeing them. I cant praise Karen, Dave, and Bethany enough for their work today, I certainly felt like Jean, at a photo shoot, I must say.
So finally, if you’re in the Leeds area, and want a really good shoot done, vintage, or otherwise, then I highly recommend Cocoture to you. Hopefully Karen can provide me with a phone number, or add one in the comments, as I suspect the only phone number I can find, is the Rawdon one.
Tonorrow, back to the day job in the call centre. Until Hollywood calls lol…
The video, Kraftwerk, The Model. Firstly, the English version
Then, in my opinion at least, the far superior German version, a very different sound too.
I suspect its just one of these things that happens from time to time, or maybe I have truly connected to a Harlow aura, and lots of men are chasing after me? More likely, given they are people I havent got a clue who they are, and they are attaching themselves as friends on Facebook, they might just think I’m a wealthy (ha ha), single lady that they can fleece!
Put it this way, this isnt the first time its happened, but both times previously when it has happened, its been principally guys from the sub continent, who are presumably seeking an easy passage into the UK, or an East European, presumably more after the better life, (and my money?) than having fallen in love with my picture!
Could just be me, and I’m wrong, but…So fine, they’ve all fallen wildly in love, with this mid fifties transgender woman, and want to marry me, and take me to paradise? No, I dont believe the last one, but wouldnt it be wonderful if it was true? But anyway…
The thing that gets me, is that they are like buses, you wait months for one to come along, then all of a sudden, 3 come along, pretty much at once! But this time, they arent from impoverished countries, my latest 3 beaus seem to live either in the US, or the UK. Of course, online ‘dating’, they could really be anywhere, so…
Sadly, I’ve yet to discover much about my mystery men, as all have only caught me on Facebook message, late at night, when I’m trying to just get done, and get to bed. None of them seem to have mutual friends, no obvious group connection, so how they’ve found me? And its not like the 2 from the US are local to me, either! But there must be something about me, I guess? Maybe they’re Jean Harlow fans, and want their own modern version of her lol! If I ever find out, I’ll let you know.
Who knows, might get to wear a wedding dress yet!
Talking of dressing up stylishly, tomorrow is the photo shoot, and unlike last time, this time the advance plan is pure Harlow. Hey, I look like her (even I admit that by now), so we might as well play it up accordingly. So lets just say the outfits might be a bit more glamorous than some in the last shoot. Just to remind you, and for those who havent seen any, to see the resemblance
So guys, if you want to tell me I am actually a glamour kitten, and men really are falling for my looks, let me know! I’ve actually got a selection of dress lengths, so if you’re lucky (or unlucky, depending on your view of them), you might get to see my legs! Will be a while though, I suspect, but once I get them…I’ll let you know tomorrow how it went, and whether some strange machine was used on me, to make me think I actually was (or still am at that time) Jean Harlow.
The video, another blonde, from a couple of decades later, in tribute to all these men who seem to want to be my ‘friend’!
Yes, fine, by the glorious age of 56, I’ve done more than a few job interviews in my life, been doing them for about 40 years in fact. More or less to the day in fact, as I started my first job in October 74, so it must almost literally be the anniversary of that.
But, the one next week will be the first as a woman! Not that its as critical as some, its for a different internal role at work, not one at a firm that dont know me, but anyway…still a change in look for me, thats for sure. In the past, the style of dress was simple, suit, shirt and tie. But this time around…something new!
I assume that if that 16 year old lady had been going for her first interview in 1974, it would have been a smart dress, heeled shoes, the works! And very smart I’m sure I would have looked too, my mother wouldnt have allowed anything else. But of course, I wasnt a 16 year old girl back then!
But finally, I get to go for an interview as a woman. Thing is, I had no idea if a woman is still ‘expected’ to wear a dress to an interview, or not? Seemingly, you can, but equally a smart blouse, and business trousers, or skirt are fine too. Nothing to stop me wearing a dress, of course, but no longer a must. As for the high heels, fine, though I suspect they may travel to and from work in a bag, not on my feet! Even more so, given I’ll be commuting in the rush hour going in, and they ‘might’ slow me down in the commuter scrum lol.
To be honest, if it was practical, I’d probably love to wear a dress to my interview, just because I could. But given if it would have to be a change at work (realistically), I almost certainly wont. I’m pretty sure it will be a blouse, and skirt/trousers, just because its easier that way. Though I know that teenage girl in me wants to put on her best dress, and go for it, for that first interview.
So maybe, just maybe, I should take a bag with me, and go for it? Hmm? Thing is, I’m not sure if that will impress, or otherwise, the people interviewing me. I know, I know, I want the job, dont be a rebel, but…is a woman wearing a dress that much of a rebel?
Video choice works for my outfit choice, and my interview chances, I guess?
