Oh fine, I know, you’ve been waiting a week to hear the news about the job, but now I’ve got something else I want to tell you about, so…Fine, you can wait until tomorrow to hear about that!
Well, the good, and obvious news, I’ve survived the first week back at work, after too long away from it. Equally, I cant say I’ve enjoyed in the slightest, the need to be up before 5.45 in the morning to get to work, but fine, I’m getting there. In fact, frighteningly, so far the journeys to work havent been too bad. Had a couple of not so great journeys home (buses, not trains), but that was principally down to road works in town, and not the inabilities of First Huddersfield, though that may be being kind to them?
As to work, its been fine, but given the whole week (and next week) is dedicated to training, I’d be surprised if that wasnt the case at present. I’m the oldest in the group of 9, by far, and with the exception of one other, all are 24 or younger! Lets just say 3 are very loud, and leave it at that! No, sadly, I havent yet seen any sign of a silver bodysuit that we are expected to wear, or been told that the headset will have interesting effects on the mind, but I can hope I get offered that option at the end of next week lol! Headset is actually wireless, so I’m told, that will be interesting at least.
Alright, what other job related news can I tell you? I’ve been to other work places where tea, and coffee is provided for free, but this is the first (and probably last) place I’ve known where you’re provided with lunch for free! Yes, seriously, apart from travel card, I havent paid for anything all week! Just a sandwich/roll (and fruit option), but that suits me fine, so…For those fascinated, still waiting to hear on checks for other job at the moment.
But yes, the most amazing thing for me, its the first job where everyone has only known me as a woman, wow, just wow, its wonderful!
OK, the video. For those who think commuting isnt anything like this, you’re wrong, it is! Only difference is that now everyone is staring at their phone, or tablet device, not a newspaper, but otherwise. And no, the woman drinking wine isnt me, she’s not blonde! No, going back to work hasnt yet driven me to drink, but it might!
OK, lets try looking ahead, instead of backwards for once. Next week, for the first time in about 15 months (apart from a fortnight I’d rather forget), I will get back to the delights of commuting to work again. Yes, the word, delight, is being facetious, believe me. Its been clear to see that the ‘new’ Trans Pennine Express is no more efficient than the old one was, but hey, at least I know what I’m in for.
The main thing I know I’m going to miss, and in truth, the only thing I will probably miss, is my extended internet time, which I’m certainly not going to get, after next week, at least 5 days a week. I’m guessing I’m going to have to cut back on some things, possibly even cut out others, but I will see how it goes, before I make too many cuts. However, it has to be said, the amount I do now, will not be possible in the much reduced hours I will have, as from this time next week.
Equally, I must admit, having more money again will be nice, though I’ve got so used to not spending any, its going to be weird being able to do so again. But fine, thats at least a month away, possibly 2, before finances reach any sort of level where that will be possible. But it will come, I’m sure. The main blessing will be having the funds to get another chest of drawers, and maybe another small portable wardrobe, and sort my clothing out a bit more than at present.
I’m told the dress wear will be smart casual, so I have no problems on that front, and in truth, many of my tops, and blouses havent seen much action (other than those worn in LA, last year) since I left work, so all should be fine. First day, I need to wear the dress, but pretty sure that will be that, for posh clothing! No, pretty certain I will not be wearing high heels, before you ask!
It would be nice if I could do something fun this week, before I get back to the grind, but in truth, I cant afford it! I will get out tomorrow, to get my hair colored, but thats the biggest, and only excitement at present! With luck, the hair dryer will turn into a brainwashing unit, but…no, fine, I couldnt be that lucky! If anyone wants to treat me (ha ha), then feel free to offer, it would probably do me good!
But yes, this time next week, I should be on my way home, after my first day back at work! Yes, after 15 months, actually getting to say that, quite precious. Funny thing, it will be my first job where everyone has only known me as a woman, wow! Something to think about, for sure.
OK, the video. Well, yes, there is a clue in the title, though its a line from the song, not the name. Given that I used the original before (nearly 5 years ago, mind), I’ve found a rare bird, a live version.
Hey, who knows? At some point I might even get to meet the legendary station cat at Huddersfield, Felix!
Last night I finished work at 5.45, and got home smoothly and sweetly, in just under an hour. Train on time, bus on time, frightening stuff, yes, I know lol!
Tonight I finished at 4.30, hit the beginning of the rush hour in Leeds, certainly hit it in Huddersfield, and took me the best part of an hour and a half to get home! Train was late (shock horror, not!), and of course the bus made slow progress at this end, because of all the traffic.
Thats the thing with working shifts, you travel at all hours. I’ve left here as early as 6.20 am, got home as late as 11.20 pm, so I’ve pretty much seen everything. I’ve also (thankfully not often, other than in depths of winter at least) done shifts where I’ve left in the dark, and came home in the dark, which says it all sometimes.
Its funny, so much is said about the whole rush hour thing being diluted, with so many (like myself) working shifts nowadays, but it doesnt seem so. Fair enough, due to Trans Pennine Express insisting on only running 2, or 3 carriage trains most of the day, the trains would be crowded anyway. We do generally get ‘double length’ trains in the rush hours, but thats about it. Too many people, not enough space, thats for sure. Certainly was tonight, when 2 ‘sort of’ rush hour train capacities get crushed into 1, because of the delayed train. Thankfully I was lucky, got a seat, but so many didnt. Even if the train had been on time (Yes, I’ll stop laughing now!) it would have been busy, but with all the extra traffic as well…rolls eyes!
The irony is, tomorrow morning, on the 7.26 am (yes, early start on a Saturday, aargh!) I will probably end up with most of a carriage to myself. That train, Monday to Friday, total opposite!
Ironic, its called the rush hour, most of the time the term, crush hour would be more apt.
The video, well I’ve never commuted, or travelled like this, thats for sure! More relaxing, and more comfortable than Trans Pennine Express, thats definite!
