Fine, as promised the brief look at what I know I have planned for the New Year.
As usual, the main things in the pipeline would be the 2 trips to the US, though the first will be later than usual this year, not until mid May, instead of late April. Why, principally because Easter is late this year, so combining in all the bank holidays around that time, and avoiding the Grand National, its about the first chance I get to go. Where, well, as things stand at present, like Dorothy, I will get to Kansas. Though whether I get beyond Wichita, at the moment, its wait and see. September, and this might change for other reasons to November, the plan is to go to Albany.
All provisional, the first depends to a small degree on a friend named Kate (who might have had a few mentions here) and her availability. Though to be honest, unless she can be available in September to travel with me, but not in May, I plan to go to Kansas, come what may! Might make going to Cherryvale without her a lot more tricky, but…
Albany in September, might become Albany in November. I mentioned just before Thanksgiving that it would be nice to be in the US on that occasion, but equally saying I felt it was a family thing, so maybe I shouldnt? But another dear friend, James, offered to adopt me for the event, and if that does happen, I will probably delay the trip till then, and just have the usual week at home in September instead. I might, might, make a third trip to the US, but suspect the finances wont stretch to that.
Due to some small football tournament next year (something called the World Cup?), getting to Ireland for cricket might prove complex. Not that I can really comment at present, beyond 2 one day matches against Sri Lanka just before my May trip, not much is definite yet. I hope I can, and get better weather than last year if I do, but lets wait and see.
Beyond that, I have my 56th Birthday (creak) to look forward to in March, and a week off, starting a week on Monday, hopefully to recharge the batteries. Beyond all that, the Works Christmas Dinner at the end of the year, assuming I’m still there of course!
I know, I know, such an exciting life lol!
The only other thing I do know, is that at some point this month, the 5th ebook should be released, and I promise to crank up the publicity machine when its ready, whether you like that or not! 😛 More, probably, though I have no idea when!
One thing is for sure, whatever plans I make, something will come along to change them, one way or another. For good, for bad, who knows? But no, I have no plans for romance, or to go to a football (soccer) match at any point this year!
The video, well, its a tribute to someone who died 28 years ago today, thanks to his wild drugs intake. But this is silly fun, and as it was used to introduce the world to 1980, quite apt. Phil Lynott, RIP. Oh, and another Phil died today, Phil Everly. I just have to fear the day when all the Stephanie’s die lol!
Yes, I know technically its a couple of days early, but I dont know how much time I’ll have on Monday, so lets play it safe and do it now.
Actually because of events, a couple of things which have became the norm for me didnt happen. Nothing critical, and both sports related. For the first time in quite a number of years, I didnt get to a Baseball game this year. It was always going to be a ‘one off’ in Seattle in April, but then thanks to a marathon delay from American Airlines, combined with there only being the one game in town on the Sunday the week I was there, it never happened. Funnily enough, unless I have a major change in plans next year, I’ll make it 2 in a row, as neither Wichita, or Rochester have a MLB team. I might get a game of baseball though, of the college kind in Wichita next April, lets see how things play out though, so much depends on other influences for that.
The other, due to Euro 2012, the Olympics, and a few other things was not getting to see Ireland play cricket live, and in the flesh. I did see some of the virtual washout against the Aussies on Sky, but only at work. This is something I definitely intend to correct next year, if only so I can see Trent Johnston play once more before his expected retirement at the end of next season.
So what did happen beyond 2 wonderful US holidays? Well, I got to see my first Louise Brooks film in full, a real delight. And yes, as is well known, I wore a dress to the Works Christmas Dinner, and then again for the house Christmas Dinner too! That may have been a first, but somehow I suspect now, it wont be the last. First wearing of a skirt to work too, but that was slightly less sensational lol!
Seattle, my solo trip in April was lovely, after the initial flight delay, so lovely to see it again before easing off dramatically on West Coast trips, its just getting a bit much for the old body to do it regularly now. September was wonderful, back to New England (and New York State) to meet up again with Kate for a wonderful week, and James for a wonderful day in Albany.
Next year, I go ‘state bagging’ in the US, adding Kansas to my list, and taking the total up to 22. There is a possibility of making it 23, with Oklahoma, but a few things have to fall into place for that. I have a sort of target of 25, but not sure how I get there to be honest. No, I dont expect to get very close to 50 lol! The ‘Louise Brooks memorial tour’ will be fun, even if there is so no great anniversary in her life, it will be special for me all the same. Yes, Wichita, Kansas, where she lived for a few years in 2 splits, and then Rochester, New York, where she died, and is buried.
Beyond that, I dont expect to pick the winner of the Grand National (my only bet of the year nowadays), its been a few years, and I cant see my luck changing lol! Other than that, no idea, will just have to wait and see what 2013 brings, other than my 55th birthday, which God permitting will happen in March. Oh my, I’m getting older lol!
Right, enough words, lets get to the video, and yes, back to form, its the obvious one!
No, not for me recently, but had fun helping someone else find somewhere, not that I’m ever likely to visit it, seeing its in Alabama! Maybe that made it easier, knowing that all I had to do was make suggestions, and let him do the hard work. Glad to say he did find somewhere, indirectly at least guided by my suggestions, if nothing more. But yes, it was fun, perhaps surprisingly so, and alright, I started looking at a few other places in the US that I’d love to live in, but arent really likely to, unless they have a major change on immigration rules, or I win the lottery lol!
To be honest, its over a decade since I last looked for somewhere to live for myself, but like riding a bike, it soon came back to me. Even more so when I got guidelines on the area I was searching in, never having been to that area of the US, let alone that locality. But being honest, I suspect if I’d had to do the footwork, it might not have been as much fun. The main thing that surprised me about complexes over there, as opposed to here, are the facilities provided. But then again, I should know the differences, because its more or less the same as comparing hotels between the 2 countries. Free wi-fi internet in hotels over there is the norm, not the exception, and to only a slightly lesser degree its the same with rented apartments, judging by the ones I looked at, at least. I checked, for curiousity sake over here, and beyond the luxury stuff (and even then…) it doesnt happen over here!
Where did I look, for those who are curious? Well, its a pretty obvious list if you know me, either literally, or through reading this. Seattle, Wichita, Rochester and Albany are all on the list, cant think why. San Francisco would have been, but I know there wiuld be out of my budget, or so I’m told! Didnt look at New England, though that was tempting. Again, Alaska was tempting, but didnt take a peek. And no, for those who know me, there was nothing in Cherryvale, Kansas lol! Judging by house prices around there, renting isnt really a likely option in that area, you’d be more likely to buy.
But yes, apartment hunting would I think be fun again, even more so doing it as a woman for the first time. I’m tempted to try and look at a few places in Seattle next month if I have the time, but suspect that might be tricky without any proof of being able to live and work in the US.
The music, a very tenuous link! But given that I found apartment hunting fun, and they were a great group, we have…
Yes, I know, its been a while since I last posted here. Sorry, but the last 3 days, the shifts have been quite long, to put it mildly, and the train company has been providing its usual awful service which didnt help either, for getting anything done here.
However, the good news, or bad news depending on how you see these, this is the first day off of 3 in a row, so you should get more soon. Whats happened, apart from work? Nothing all that exciting really. No, I havent rung my ‘beau’ to arrange a date, before anyone asks lol!
On a sports front, Ireland started their cricket year today in Kenya, and Keighley are currently playing their first game of the season as well, as I type this. Oh, and the NFL has finished, technically last weekend, but that wasnt a concern on my last post. Next big date in that sense is April, when they announce the schedule, and hopefully put Buffalo @ New England in the right sort of place, mid-end September if they can take a hint. Oh, and the on/off farce of last nights Ireland rugby match in Paris!
By now I’m fully used to having a cleavage 24/7, and it would now seem funny to be without them I suspect, though agreed, naturally curvaceous would be so much more fun! And no, not one word from anyone at work about them still! I cant believe no one is at least curious, but anyway…
Its beginning to look like next year will be the one I walk in the footsteps of Louise Brooks. It really ought to be this year (25th anniversary of her death), but next year will have to do. Rochester (burial spot) will definitely at least be visited next April, if not the place I stay, which has to be a possible. Where else you ask? Wichita, Kansas in September is definitely becoming the hot favourite for that trip. She spent 2 short spells of her life there, and its a lot easier to reach than Cherryvale (birthplace) for a non driver like me. Thats probably a step too far unless I find a friendly chauffeur though, not even any bus service that I can find into that town! No, I have no plans to learn to drive in the interim!
Oh, and lastly before I sign off. There’s a significant date for some in 2 days time, but certainly not for me. Well not unless my beau has somehow found out my address lol! Cant actually remember the last time I had a Valentine card to be honest, might well be there hasnt been one this century as yet. No, I dont miss the fuss, but it just always strikes me at this time of year.
Alright, the video, all I suspect some come here for. An oldie, a great rock song, and maybe not too hard to work out from the blog title.
