Getting myself presentable

Because as they always say about Hollywood, you just never know! Granted, given that isnt the Golden Age any more, the vision of being whisked off the streets of Hollywood, and becoming a movie star are far slimmer than they used to be. Even more so when you’re fast heading towards 60! But fine, miracles might happen…stop laughing!

Well, for the first time in about 18 months, my nails have been ‘painted’ (gel, actually), my brows have been removed again, and I wont be doing a Julia Roberts if I do wear a sleveless dress either! Hopefully some will get that comment at least? And despite a shoulder that seems determined to join my long list of less than perfectly functioning joints, my body has hopefully been massaged into a state where it can survive a near 11 hour flight. Definitely my longest since 2003 (London – Seattle), and maybe the longest, as I’m guessing flights might be slightly faster by now? Anyway…

And yes, I will be the ‘platinum blonde’ after tomorrow morning, when I get my hair done as well. Though in truth, I’m more suitable for Mama Jean, than Baby Jean material nowadays lol. But actually, today, the subject seems to have been about an actress even closer to my heart than Jean Harlow, though far less famous. Yes, Clara Johnson! Discussed her this afternoon while having my body seen to, which started off with asking if I planned to be regressed again to find out more (Yes, definitely, given the chance) and just went on from there. The head massage part, I did wonder if she was trying to get Clara to come out in my mind, there and then!

This morning, she came up, through talking about another actress of that era, and one I plan to see a statue of, while away, Myrna Loy. Yes, the one at Venice High School. Must see it once, for sure.

Unfortunately, for minor actresses (and chorus line dancers) in the late 20’s, and early 30’s, its hard to find much details, as extras, and chorus line girls didnt get credited, unless they made it later, and as she never did…

So fine, at present, I know…
She was born in Oklahoma in 1905. She moved to LA, from Texas in 1925. She was resident in LA in 1930, and declared her career as an actress on the census form that year, living in town with her brother. What happened to her parents, no idea? 1937, her one actual credit in a movie, in an uncredited role in Thin Ice, and thats definite, care of census details, and IMDB for that movie role.
On top of that, apparantly stated in regression, she was already working as a bit part actress by 1928, got married in the late 30’s, had a daughter, and judging by the impression she gave, I would say, died of lung cancer at some point in the early, to mid 50’s. Of course, the marriage makes things impossible to trace, without going through all marriage records for the area, assuming it didnt happen elsewhere. Pretty sure it would have been local, but…

I know this is the wildest question, but if anyone has any idea who she is in Thin Ice, which I guess is unlikely, as there were numerous uncredited roles in that movie, let me know. Sadly I dont know anyone at Fox, so I doubt I could dive into their archives, even if they go back that far! Must have been a contract, a pass picture, or something? Also, if anyone knows someone who could get me back into the room with the LA census records, and/or marriage records for that era, please let me know. If nothing else, the chance to pay my respects, before I left town, would be so precious.

So yes, in a sense, I want to get a message to Clara Johnson to hold on, because I’m still seeking her, wherever she may be resting. Yes, I’ve stood in Jean’s ‘footsteps’ in Kansas City station, I’d love to stand in Clara’s, in Hollywood. Yes, I know…

The video is all about getting that message out, though actually I will have 10 days, and my life wont be through, if its in vain, as I suspect it will be. Unless…?

I win again?

OK, fine, under normal circumstances I’d probably have spread this out over a couple of blogs, and saved me thinking up subject material, but then I heard something tonight that I will need to comment on, which will have to wait until the weekend, but…

Well, as amazing as it sounds, 6 months ago tomorrow, I started a job, my first with all female paperwork. Fine, it was only the passport before, at the end for Hills, but it was still a landmark. Well, people already know how its going, so I wont mention too much on that here, you already know how much I’m loving it. So, whats the landmark, you ask? Simple, something called the probation period. Yes, strictly it ended today, but given today was my day off for the week, I got my confirmation paperwork last night to confirm I’d passed. Fine, I’d been told before then it was going to be the case, but even so, actually having it down on paper, is a lovely thing.

So, as I joked last night, short of a good acting offer, or a Californian millionaire of either gender whisking me off my feet, and marrying me, thats my job plans settled for a while, hopefully until retirement. Doing the same role? I would say probably, but you can never tell with these matters, though I’ve certainly no great management plans at this point in my life, but who knows? Not to say I wont be putting myself forward for challenges, as the DWP are looking for people to serve on the Diversity committee, and given I qualify on age, transgender, and sexuality (I’m claiming bi, if ever interested), hopefully they will see me as perfect material! It would be a fascinating thing to do, good for my CV (though hopefully I wont need that again), and something different in life, all of which will be good for me. Fine, I may get beat for the role, but I’m up to challenge for these sort of things, and not so long ago, I’m sure I wouldnt have been.

Thanks, DWP for everything, this lady is proud of you for everything. Especially as it was one their ladies, in the Huddersfield Job Center, who directed me to Civil Service Job pages in the first place!

The other big news, I’m probably going to a wedding later this year. No, not mine…yet! A wonderful friend in the US, who I’ve known online for ages, but so far, yet to meet, named Stacie, got proposed to at the weekend, and said yes. Yes, she wants me at the wedding, though I trust not as a bridesmaid! No, Stacie, dont! Which means that she is currently trying to plan events around my holiday in her area of the US (well, close enough) in September, which seems a bit of a short period in time to me. If it doesnt happen then, put it this way, I’ll be doing everything in my power to get there when it does. But yes, I wish her, and Eric all the best, whenever it happens!

Oh, and lastly, I’m a natural blonde again. Oh, I wish! No, I just look like one for a while, having got my hair colored, and cut today. Sadly, it wont last forever, but for a few glorious weeks at least, I’ll look the part! Then I’ll be an ‘assisted’ blonde again lol!

OK, the video. A Bee Gees song, but not them singing it! You might have heard of Gary Simmons in my postings before, and this is one of his, with his regular job, the tribute band, Jive Talking. Song, I think you might have worked it out!

Some currencies are stronger than others!

Unsurprisingly, given that I’ve spent the last 12 years working in them, most of my job applications have been for work in call centres. Regardless of my desire to do something new, the likelihood of my CV being most closely scrutinised by potential employers, is in the area where my recent career stands up, and jumps out at them.

I did, a while back apply for a position as a receptionist, the duties of which I’m more than capable of doing, but got no further than an initial interview. Yes, fine, the fact that he was really looking for a PA, set me, at my age, at a disadvantage, but anyway…

So in that sense, yesterday saw something new, I had an interview for a retail position, with one of these companies that sells foreign currency to the general public, in many forms. Yes, it used to be cash, and travellers cheques, but the latter, like ordinary cheques seem to have almost disappeared. Nowadays, pre paid credit cards, in foreign currencies seem to have taken their place, and much easier they are too!

Yes, its an area that a regular traveller abroad knows well, and one I’d enjoy working in. Fine, I havent done any retail work for 14 years, but I suspect its like riding a bike, and besides, I’ve been dealing with the public in the interim, just over the phone!

Mostly its going to be a few principal currencies that I’ll be dealing with, but I’m sure you’ll get the odd different one from time to time. Mind, a few currencies I’ve bought in my time no longer exist, those countries now in the Euro zone. Yes, about half the Euro countries, I purchased their old national one at some point.

But the one currency that amused me today, is nowhere near Europe. Its that long running political, and financial mess, Zimbabwe. Apparently they are giving up on the national currency, and going over to the US Dollar. The exchange rate? 35 Quadrillion (that’s 35, followed by 15 zeros!) Zimbabwe dollars, to the US Dollar!!! Thats how worthless their current currency is. Even if they werent dropping it, I would think its fair to say, not many get exchanged for sterling!

As always, we will see, but it will certainly be an interesting role, if I get it.

The video about sums up the Zimbabwe currency, soon to be no more
