Dont go breaking my purse!
One of the things I’ve got used to over the years, when flying to the US, is that the airlines provide you with a meal on the flight, each way, so its not something I think about too much any more, when making flight/holiday bookings. Some charge for seat selection, especially in economy class (I tend to fly premium economy now, when available), but meals, and soft drinks at least, are provided.
So, anyway, today, I was booking my trip to Portugal for November, to try and get some healing sun, and heat into my back, before the UK winter, package holiday style. Hey, given I have all these hotel chain cards, I normally book everything separately, but needs must…
So yes, cleverly, I put enough on my prepaid credit card to cover the cost of the holiday (which has gone up since first checking, due to pound collapsing against Euro, due to Brexit, rolls eyes…), and a little bit to spare. Only, by the time I’d selected my seats (I’m a window person, darlings), and paid the cost of package, I was beginning to cut it fine. That was when I found out I had to pay extra, again, for meals on the plane! Oops! Anyway, I’ve compromised, I’ve got a meal going out, but nothing coming back, but beyond boredom issue, shouldnt be a problem, as its an afternoon flight, and I should be able to have lunch before leaving Portugal, and survive till after I get back to UK. Of course, alternatively, before November, I can put more money on card, edit the booking to add a meal, and issue solved. But, old habits… No, cant remember last time I paid for a meal on a plane! Oh well… Oh fine, the card now has a balance of £0.04! Lol!
Who knows, I might even get to wear that cute little swimsuit I got yet. Yes, the skirt kind, which will hide a million sins. Unless anyone buys me a burkini in interim (are they legal in Portugal?), and dares me to wear it, at least!

The first step to fame? Maybe, maybe not?
Alright, alright, when I joked about becoming a star in Hollywood, I thought thats what it would be, a joke. A dream maybe, but not going to happen? So fine, what if I say I’m doing an interview in Hollywood on October 7th?
No, none of the movie companies have seen my blonde locks, and my Harlow looks, lost their sanity, and invited me in for a screen testing, or to err, try out the casting couch at least! Nor I might add, have any of the major TV channels done the same yet. So…I’ll be an online, err, star at least. Fine, stop laughing, you have to start somewhere, and who knows who will be watching?
Alright, I’ll explain.
A Twitter contact (yes, this place is amazing) named Alexia posted on Saturday, looking for people to do 30 minute (or so) interviews on creative issues, and being the sweet, generous Harlow like soul that I am, I offered my services to talk about my discovery of, and life as a transgender woman, if she was interested. It didnt take long to discover the answer was yes.
So after minimal discussion, its sorted, I will be doing a live interview online, on 7th October, at 11.30 am PDT (7.30 pm UK time, the rest you can work out), which you can watch streaming at https://sqeeqee.com/profile/info/1089462 where it will be archived afterwards, if you prefer to catch it that way, or its the only way you can.
It will be interesting for sure, about a subject matter I feel keenly about (transgender, not me, but…), and should be able to talk about for a while, for sure. Hey, I can always bring up LGB issues if I need to, but principally…Trans is my cause, lets face it.
As I say, its something, my first break in Hollywood at least. Fine, its actually up in Studio City, but its close! As I say, it would be wonderful if someone ‘high up’ somewhere saw it, said she’s of interest, and contacted me, but realistically I suspect it wont happen, but…Hey, if I only get chance to mention my job hunting, and get offered an interview for a normal job, or just for a few days, or more, it gets me the chance to work on Hollywood Boulevard in one of those body suits, or something, wouldnt it be great? Most likely, I will go back to my apartment, and anonymity, but hey, I can hope?
The video, I think this hopefully might be apt (ha ha), but you never know. The singer at least was born locally in Bradford.
As you may have worked out, this is your last British blog for a while. For the next 4 weeks or so, they will be coming from Hollywood, written by a movie star. Oh fine, maybe the last bit is an exaggeration lol! But…
My local music scene
Some places have a great reputation for all the great pop acts to come out of them, Liverpool being the most obvious example over the years, producing pop acts over the years far out of proportion to what perhaps they should have achieved.
The home council of my birth area wasn’t one of them though! Bradford has never exactly been a musical hotspot over the years, and though I’m sure others will throw up names, the only 2 I know both reached their height in the 70’s, and though both are still going strong now, its been a long while since anything charted!
Kiki Dee is probably most famous for a certain duet with her record label co-star Elton John, but did have some solo success in her own right, an example of which below. Back in the late 60’s there were albums produced by session musicians and singers of all the big hits, and amazingly both were involved in those before fame arrived. There is a rumour Bowie was too, but I’ve never read any definite evidence of that. As I said pop success was intermittent for Kiki, but she went on to star in many major stage musicals, Blood Brothers being the most obvious one. I’m posting this video, as there werent too many around in the early 70’s, so I suspect its fairly rare

Smokie are the only other Bradford act I can think of that made it really big, and are still going strong today, albeit with a bit of a changed line-up lol! They had a string of hits in the 70’s, so picking a song was technically easier, and a few more videos to pick from. But this wasnt one of their big hits, its just a song so associated with the group though.

Feel free to tell me of the legendary Bradford bands I’ve missed, I’m sure there are some. Just remember though that anything after the mid 90’s or so would have missed my radar!
Oh, and a jokey message to all England cricket fans reading this. Enjoy your success, because Ireland will hopefully do a repeat in 12 days time! 🙂 Seriously, congrats on a great summer, and getting the No. 1 ranking today.
