Right, I’ll make the offer loud and clear, and see if anyone will take me up on it. I am off work this week, and I hereby pledge to fill the usual blog spaces for you. Given that I’m not planning on anything more than a relaxing week until Friday (more on that Thursday) other than treatments, I’ve got the time to do more blogs. But if you want them to appear, I need some suitable subject matter, thats all. No UK/Europe politics, but other than that…? No, I dont expect to hear from anyone, but I can hope. firstname.lastname@example.org for emails will be fine, if you dont want to join on here.
What struck me on Friday morning, and to a lesser degree, yesterday morning, was the number of children under 5 on the buses I caught. One woman had 3, of different ages, all under 5, or they should have been at school!
And yes, I wondered what their life will be, when they reach my age? What will their retirement age be by then, for starters? Expected life span was about 71 when I was a child, and now its 81! Pretty certain my body isnt going to last to 81, but some of us have to live less than average, lol! But will it be 90 in 60 years time, or more, or less, or…?
Look at phones nowadays, and move them on another 60 years. Back then, you had to book an international call about a week in advance, and you paid a fortune, and were limited to a few minutes, and no more. Now (and I have) I can speak to the West Coast of America, on a whim for the US, and it doesnt cost a fortune, even if you have to pay for it. Yes, I dialled a freephone number, and got connected to the US, crazy stuff.
Oh, and because of where we’re heading with the video, when I was born, no man had flown in space, it was a year after I was born that it first happened. Satellites were just about to be launched for the first time, so watching pictures, as we do now, from the other side of the world, live…wow! Hey, it was such a novelty that one adult worker included the novelty of a satellite in her outfit
Yes, Sputnik, the first Soviet satellite. And before you ask, would I wear that helmet, of course I would! I would say the full outfit, but I am 60, so if anyone wants to create it for me…?
I’m not even going to try and comprehend what will be the novelty item 60 years from now! One thing is for sure, I wont be around to find out! Will someone be experiencing a past life regression then, and finding me? Interesting thought!
One thing is for sure, there is no way we could even vaguely imagine what life will be on Earth in 2080, so I’m not even going to try. You can assume there will be bases on the Moon, and Mars, and maybe more? Will they look back on our movies, and be amused by how retro they are? Oh, and will they be able to transform humans into robots? 😉
Right, video time. This may look very basic now, but in 1962, this was cutting edge music. Oh, and of course, it also relates to a different satellite! Oh, and at the grand old age of 4, I bought this single!
And as promised a week ago, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, and in the eleventh hour in east coast US zone, by the time I finish this, we are one hundred years on from the end of the great insanity that was World War 1. Of course that orange, wigged buffoon from the US couldnt even be bothered to turn up at the US Military Graves for those of his country that fell there in the Great War, because of a little bit of rain. Poor thing, but I bet if they were Russian, his boss would have made him turn up, but anyway…
I actually went to see a good play this week put on by the drama group in Cookridge, which a couple of my fellow workers were taking part in. Too late for you to go now, but they put on a good show. And its from that, that I got the blog title, the not unreasonable line about lions being led by donkeys. Because, sadly, its true, most of the so called leaders of the war force were barely able to tie up shoe laces, judging by their decisions, let alone send brave young men into war, many to meet their death, at far too young an age.
To put it into perspective, if I remember the figures rightly, the group of ‘Yorkshire Pals’ that the play was about on Thursday, 900 men went over the top at the Battle of the Somme, only 150 even made it to the assembly point a few hundred yards ahead of them. The rest of them died, some quite literally never to be seen again.
The thing is, some of the leaders knew what a disaster this was, as I read this morning of Lloyd George, trying to convince a young relative of the Canadian Ambassador not to go to the front, as he wished to. The comment was that things were ‘bad for our forces’, an understatement if ever there was one.
The biggest irony, and leadership incompetence however, was saved for this date, 100 years ago. On this date, an attack was launched, leading to about 2000 young men dying, when the leaders knew that the Armistice was being declared about 3 hours later! I think calling them donkeys, would be insulting donkeys, in truth.
Anyway, 100 years on from that date, let us all remember those ‘brave lions’ that died in that war, and try to forget the ‘idiot donkeys’ that led them there. RIP!
Right, the blog has been serious, the video is not. I need to do something lighthearted for the event, or I’ll scream, so…
For reference, Pat & Stanley are the 2 in the video. As far as I can tell, the singing is the version by The Tokens
One source of amusement, and amazement to me, is that there is one lovely gentleman I know, who thinks I can make the perfect wife for him, and the perfect mother for his children. Yes, I know, stop laughing! Thats right, me who has barely cooked in many years (apart from pre-packaged meals), and who has never had children in her life, and besides which, despite the loud shouts in my profile, and everything else, I’m not entirely convinced that he has taken in that this woman comes with a probably undesired extra bit! Fine, he might be the one that I get rid of that bit for, but we will have to wait and see on that. More likely, I suspect, that once he finally gets the message I’m trans, will probably disappear as fast as the last one did, once he finally got the message! But maybe I’m wrong, who knows? Maybe he knows, and loves me despite that? Yes, I know…
The silly thing is, despite the thousands of miles between us, and everything (he’s in California, a bonus for me!) else, I have sort of fallen for him too. I know, its a silly thing to do, but chatting with him, and leaving messages for him, I enjoy doing it! Yes, I might actually enjoy marriage, motherhood, and being a housewife with him, it has to be said. Thing is, for whatever reason, I’m not convinced how well I’d pass on any of those 3 subjects.
First, after 16 years, I’m hopelessly independent, so having to consider what others want to do, before actually planning anything, could be interesting. Secondly, I have no idea in the slightest about being a mother, and two kids (currently 10 and 7) might make for an interesting challenge. Thirdly, yes, fine, my cooking skills are very rusty, as probably are my general housekeeping ones too. But fine, I’m sure, with time, I could get the grip on these things again.
Yes, I’d love to be the perfect mother, and wife, probably of the 50’s style, when the man was boss, and the woman did as she was told! Yes, fine, I’m very submissive in nature, I’d love that! Pretty much summed up by these 2 delightful pictures that Stacie, and I found online
Now if there was a Stepford School of Housewifery, I’d be in heaven! Even more so, if they turned me into a genuine Stepford wife, but enough of that!
As I say, my feeling is its all going to end sometime soon, when he realizes I’m not a natural woman, and this whole matter will be irrelevant. i’d love to be wrong, become a bride, and live in California, but cant see it in more than my dreams! Wonder if I can find a metallic silver bride’s dress lol? No, dont wait for the wedding invites, mind!
But for now, well, if anyone knows of any ‘interesting ways’ to turn me into the perfect wife, and mother, please let me know, I’d love the upgrade, regardless.
The video, fine, I wouldnt play this if there are children anywhere around. Lets just say it includes moments of a very good drag queen, doing her Stepford thing.
