It was only as I was crossing the Atlantic on Wednesday night/Thursday morning that I realised one thing, that it was the last time ever that Stevie Lou Nicholls would fly anywhere. No, not as drastic as it sounds, I’m not giving up on travelling, or anything like that, but it will be my last flight with that name. Alright, if I got called back to Hollywood next week (ha ha), then that fact wouldnt be true, but in all reality, thats it.
But as I say, dont fret, its nothing more than that I’m changing my name again, of course. To be honest, when I was in LA, I was using Stephanie as my name (other than places where I was using a credit card/or passport ID), so its not like I havent been building up to it at least. Fine, in one place I was being called Harlean Carpenter, but thats because she knew me by that Facebook account, and despite the famous image on the account, assumed it was my name. Not that I minded anyway… 😉
Oh, and not only am I changing name, I’m changing title too. Yes, going to be a proper Miss, none of that trendy Ms stuff any more! But ironically enough, I still havent settled on whether I will be Stephanie Harlean Carpenter, or Harlean Stephanie Carpenter. I know, I know, but…
Keeping Stephanie as my first name does make sense in many ways. Mainly that I’m pretty much guaranteed to answer to it at all times, and those who wish to continue to call me Steph, or Stevie, would still have it easily available, as an abbreviation of the name. Of course, many are known to people by their middle name, so in that sense, it would still be fine at least. And yes, by having Harlean as the middle name, it flows into the Carpenter surname in a good way. (Jean Harlow’s real name, for the few who may not know, was Harlean Harlow Carpenter)
But equally, I can see a good case for actually changing my first name to Harlean. And not just the total Jean Harlow connection of being Harlean Carpenter to the vast majority of people who know me, post change, which I would certainly love, but anyway…Its the clean break, taking Steve/Stevie out of the equation in a big way, by taking a fresh first name. Obviously, by taking Stephanie as my middle name, it would still cover my old name, for those who knew me before, and as I say, many are known by their middle name, to some at least, so…But is it right, to take a famous person’s name, even if she didnt use it, or was really known by it, so literally? At the same time…
Yes, you’re right, give me a free call, and take away my hesitation about using her real name, and I would pick Harlean as my new first name. Fine, it would cause fun on Facebook (because my author account is already under that name), and one other Forum, but I could work around that. I’d probably make my main FB account, Harlean Stephanie Carpenter, and the forum would soon get tweaked too (Jean Carpenter, probably), so its workable. But at the same time, being realistic, going Stephanie Harlean just makes things so much easier.
So I probably will, when I get to doing the deed poll form this weekend, or next week at the latest, go with Stephanie Harlean, because I will let my head rule my heart, and all that. But no promises made! I cant actually get the passport changed immediately, unfortunately, because while job hunting, you need a form of ID, and thats what I’m using at present. No, I have no idea where my birth certificate is, and besides, its in the wrong name anyway!
For those on Twitter, I have started a new poll on my name choice over at @harleanlook , if you want to go and vote, assuming you’ve an account. Doesnt mean I’m going to respect the vote anyway, but it will be taken into account, especially if conclusive.
OK, the other transgender issue. Written without checking too many details on name etc. A transgender woman was sentenced to prison recently, and because her passport was still male, she got sent to a men’s prison, where unsurprisingly she was sexually harassed. A campaign was started to get her moved, or released was started accordingly. To be honest, she has got multiple arrests for assaults, and the like, so release would be a total injustice. But thankfully today, logic was seen through, she will serve the rest of her sentence, but in a woman’s prison. But to be honest, in these times, when with a formal letter from your doctor to confirm living as a woman for a lengthy period, you can now get your passport in your desired gender (what I will do for my new one), as opposed to when I first transitioned (when basically until I had the op, no gender change), why hadnt she done that? As a friend said, she was probably too busy beating up people to get it done, but anyway… I should add, that my passport is now the only thing I’m tagged as male in, and not for much longer!
So if anyone wants to offer me a job, so I can send my passport off, and become officially female, please do! Believe me, if there was a way to apply for jobs, while the passport was gone off, to be changed, I’d do it straightaway!
Right, the video. A real oldie, I guess you could say ‘My name is Jackie, lol’
No, seriously no, please dont. But the title fits in with the video, and that fits in (of sorts) with the location, so…
Yes, you’re right, the search is over. For better or worse, for crazy or totally insane, or whatever, the sanity break is officially settled, booked, and everything else. And no, not Plan B either! Which is why I can use the location connected video tonight. OK, the story, before the headline stuff.
I finally heard from Plan A man, apparently he no longer owns said cottage, but for whatever reason, the website wont let him delete his advert. Funnily enough, by the time I heard from him, I was booked! Plan B lady also had an interest for a 3 month stay, that would have overrun with mine, so decided to pass on me. I hope she doesnt end up with mud on her face over that, but anyway, not my concern now, really.
So, head to Plan C. 2 options, slightly further out from the centre of things, but very nice places. One, the current renter had just extended their stay, but yes, the other was free! And yes, its not free now! Thats right, however sane an idea it is, and I’m still not thoroughly convinced myself on that front, the deed is done, apartment and flight booked, for a 4 week stay in Hollywood. No one amazingly has yet told me what a daft idea this all is. Now whether thats because it isnt, or whether its because no one is just prepared to say it to my face, no idea! Too late now, either way! If nothing else, the air fare is booked, and thats non refundable!
Whats that? You want a look? Oh fine… https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/5857564 should take you through to have a look. Nice, isnt it? Well, you werent expecting a Harlow mansion on my budget lol? 😉 But its got everything I should need though, for my sanity break, and everything else. The oven (and microwave) gives me the option to buy cheap meals, and eat in, at least to some degree, probably wise under the circumstances, as well as eating out sometimes.
Plans, apart from the crazy one of attracting the eye of someone from a movie, or TV studio, and getting employed by them (which may have worked in the 20’s or 30’s, but not now), are simple. Hopefully get to see some of the sights I didnt get to see in April (and there are plenty), see some again (including a return visit to Forest Lawn), and hopefully get some useful things, like writing done. And fine, should I see a suitable job opening while there, I might just have a go. Not going to happen, unless they are really keen on me, but hey, who knows? Would be wonderful though, but I’m being realistic. I’m sure there will be a couple of “silly”, more expensive excursions (Dodgers are at home my first weekend, end of season) as well, but on the whole, I will have to be practical on such matters.
Of course, I might get wined and dined by someone romancing me, but I suspect thats as likely as becoming a movie actress! If someone offers to buy me a coffee, I suspect that will be quite something! But hey, I’ll be in the home of romantic movies, so…no, not really!
Fine, yes, and not just in case someone at the Job Centre is reading this, I’m still job hunting. But clearly, I’m now looking for something starting at the beginning of November. Christmas season might provide some temporary work at least, if nothing else. So fine, now you know.
Miss Harlean Carpenter (I might have been, if I could have fitted the name change in, between trips) will be taking up residence in a private apartment in Hollywood for the month of October (close enough, 30/9 to 28/10), and open to all offers in that period
I will have to wait until I get back from the trip to arrange that, but I’ve left the money in the secure Paypal account until I’m ready. Thank you to 2 people for at least paying part of the cost of that. Anyone else that is still inclined to help, just ask, and I’ll pass you my Paypal account details. And yes, the idea of a major change, and going with Harlean Stephanie as my name is definitely winning out at the moment.
OK, finally, the video. Its a slightly different spelling, and definitely will not be my phone number while there (that will be a modern AT&T cell phone number), but its close enough
I’m pretty sure that a lot of sport nowadays is purely about the money making potential, with providing the general public with value, and entertainment a mere side issue. At least at times it feels that way.
I’m not even going into football, given the crazy sums that they charge people to go to a Premier League match nowadays, and even what some of the lower league sides charge, for an event that lasts about 90 minutes, crazy! But given I cant stand the sport, and have no wish to make it personal, lets leave it at that.
Not that (going up my scale of like) Horse Racing is an awful lot better now, what is charged for some of the major meetings (especially at weekends) sounds crazy to me, especially given that on top of the entry fee, you’re going to end up gambling more money, which may, or may not add to the cost of the day out. Fine, some days it might pay for it, but anyway…
And OK, I’m not going to defend what some of my beloved US sports charge for a seat, especially the better ones, because they can be pretty outrageous too. On top of which, you pay a good sum just to park your car, which given the prevalence of out of town stadiums seems a bit unjust too, if thats the only way you can get there?
But ironically, the sport getting my ire tonight is one of my favourites, cricket. Yesterday saw one game where not only was 126 a good score, it was a winning score, which for leading pro’s sounds crazy. Yes, I gather the wicket was to blame for that, which sounds daft, given that people pay to go and be entertained, not to see batsmen barely able to cope with conditions.
However, that wasnt as low as it got. Sky Sports were covering the game from Cardiff, due to the early end to the test match. It was a wicket that had previously been used, and sort of got back together for another match to be played on it. The commentators described it as an interesting wicket. Well, it was interesting if you want to see bowlers totally dominating, on a wicket where just about anything could happen. But for the people who’d paid a good sum, to see an entertaining cricket match, never mind!
The awful state of the wicket really showed up in the 2nd innings of the match, when both Hampshire batsmen got hit badly, by balls that leapt up from the pitch in a crazy fashion. Another ball in between, barely bounced! Anyway, after the second incident, the umpires declared the game abandoned, due to the unsafe state of the pitch. So not only did the paying public not get to be entertained, they got barely over half the match they’d paid to see.
Fair enough, if you want to pay large sums of money to go to sporting events, then go ahead and do it. I might add, that when on my own, I always go in the cheaper (though not the cheapest) seats at Baseball matches. But sporting teams, please at least provide conditions suitable for the contest, given how much you expect the public to pay to go and watch it.
The video, well its a question about yesterdays cricket, shall we say?
Oh, and fine, for the last time, given its now in its last 3 days, may I just ask that if anyone has a few spare pounds, dollars, euros, or whatever, and would like to help me change my name, the link is https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/e10ypc/ab/c2hJdb
Right, firstly, an update from Monday’s posting. Yes, I’ve decided to try the fund raiser thing, and see what happens. As I say, I cant actually do the name change, or anything until after I get back from the US, because the air ticket is already purchased, and no, I’m not paying that silly fee to change your name on the ticket, even if the full amount of money is raised in double quick time. After that, the possibility of becoming Stephanie Harlean Carpenter seems a lot more likely. Probably stop messing with this Ms lark too, and become a genuine Miss!
So fine, if there are any readers out there who havent already seen this on Facebook, or Twitter, and want to help out, the link to the campaign is at https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/e10ypc/ab/c2hJdb
Yes, thats right, one truly wonderful friend has already donated, very generously, but anyway…Look at it this way now, if 20 people each gave £5 (or 50 gave £2), I’d be there! I know, probably wont happen, but no harm in asking, I guess? Now, if only I knew Bill Gates, or someone lol…I wish!
OK, the other “event” this week is tomorrow night, in Leeds. Cocoture (with whom I’ve had both of my brilliant photo shoots done) are having an evening to celebrate their (relatively) new studio in the centre of Leeds, with a fashion and lingerie show. Proceeds are going to charity. For those of you on Facebook, and in the area, the link is https://www.facebook.com/events/1608781949397731/ though please contact Karen to check there are still tickets available before turning up!
I will be there, dressed up “a little bit”, and hopefully thats an incentive to support, not the contrary. Hey, you’re reading this, if you hated me, why…lol? Alright, there might be someone, but…
So there, sorry, a blog full of requests to spend money tonight, I know! Hopefully next time, something less demanding!
The video, well, you can tell this is live, as Dave Edmunds forgets the lyrics near the end!
Its funny how my attitude has changed to the whole name issue, since transitioning.
At the time, not only did I just literally tweak my Christian name, to something bi-gender, to make the whole thing easier, even the change I made to my middle name was made on the same basis, rather than doing what I probably should have done, and properly became Stephanie Louise, and lived by it. Yes, I changed the surname completely, back to my mothers maiden name, so that it made me look like the great unmarried spinster that I was, lol!
I mean, for many issues now, I could (and sometimes do) say my name is Stephanie, and live by it, though of course that might cause fun on any matter that requires my passport, but anyway, I could always say I used to prefer not to use the formal version, or something, I guess? Or I could just formalise it again, by deed poll, but…my one concern with that, is the only place not willing (or not last time around at least) to change my gender to female, was the passport office! Who knows, they might change their minds now, after all I’ve been living formally as a woman for 5 years now, but I wouldnt want to hold my breath! (It does seem now, that if I got a letter from the doctor, confirming I had lived as a woman for over 2 years, I can now get one as a female, phew!)
The other thought I’ve had, is to change the name completely, and start all over again. And yes, Harlean Carpenter has a very sweet sounding ring to it, I must say. No, I wouldnt take Harlow as my middle name, though I could be tempted to take Jean, all the same. I know, I could take Jean as my first name, but as I’ve already used Harlean a few times, I might even be used to it by now. 😉 Otherwise, I might just keep Stephanie, for old times sake! Also, that way, if I should have problems remembering my name, I can always use my middle name, as many others do!
There is also the beauty that Harlean is very much a name used for both genders, though very rarely used at all nowadays in any case!
To be honest, I’d probably go for it, like a shot, but for one thing, the cost of a new passport…again! Most of the other stuff just involves taking your deed poll to various places, getting your new name changed, and leaving it at that. Yes, there is a small cost for the deed poll as well, but besides that…its that passport fee!
I wouldnt be able to do it now, before September anyway, as I have a flight pre booked under my current name, but after that…I might become Harlean, for real! Or at least get rid of that ghastly abbreviated Stevie, and make it Stephanie, at least.
I must admit, I’ve noticed this recent fund raising craze, and did wonder if I should be cheeky, and do a funding request to get my name changed. To me it seems cheeky, but others have certainly done it for far more money, for fairly light matters, for more than I would need (about £100, by the time you add in photos, and the like), and had donations made! So who can tell? Maybe I should give it a go, cant lose a lot, I guess?
But yes, either way, I have a suspicion that the days of flying the name ‘flag of convenience’ may be coming to an end very soon. And you, my blog readers are the first to know!
Right, the video. Where I might be living very shortly, if I choose the name I’m seriously tempted to. OK, fine, it wont really be my house (I only rent), but close enough. I know nothing about this group, it was just one of those silly searches on You Tube, thats all!
